ELS TRES XALETS is a property located in the foothills of the Romanesque monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes and few meters from the sea near the viewpoint of the coastal town of El Port de la Selva. It has panoramic views of this typical Costa Brava fishing village, with white houses, harbor and moorings, fishing boats followed by seagulls, rocky mountain and a clear blue sea, which changes tone throughout the day. Its location, in the Alt Empordà, in the Girona province, north of Cap de Creus, has as a backdrop the views of the Pyrenees, 30 minutes away. The region is an area of ​​vineyards and wine estates.

El Port de la Selva is a beautiful village of the Costa Brava and very typical of the Alt Empordà region. It must be the only town on the Mediterranean coast where the sun rises from the back of the church and the old town. This phenomenon leads to wonderful dawns and sunsets, and it is why it has always been held dear by artists. Jordi Danés, watercolorist of the Olot school, whilst contemplating a change of colors in a wonderful sunset, sitting at Cafe Spain, one said: ”and it is said that painters invented these colors when we moved them to the canvas… “. José M ª Vayreda Canadell, has lovely paintings of El Port, one of them a beautiful view of the town made from the terrace of Els Tres Xalets. Ladis Romero not only painted excellent pictures of the village and their surroundings, but lived and died in the adjoining property with Els Tres Xalets. Carles Bros has his annual meeting in Port at TRAMUNTANART.
Many writers have expounded upon the beauties of El Port. The most renowned is perhaps José María de Segarra, that even today the most significant of his poems can be read on one of the walls of the café Marina.

El Port de la Selva was and still is home of excellent teachers. Mr. Musquera was an institution in the village and his kindness and expertise remain. In the village of Montagut, in the Garrotxa area, there is a street dedicated to the professor Pere i Oriol Costa, a native of Port, a teacher’s village in early last century and his memory remains.

Two kilometers from El Port de la Selva there is the interior village of Selva de Mar. The walk along the path parallel to the road towards the village is very nice, and when you arrive to the village, Selva de Mar invites you to discover its streets and the stream and makes the stroll a very enjoyable experience.

On the other side of Cap de Creus, 12Km away, lies the emblematic town of Cadaqués, in the Alt Empordà region, mecca of artists. Next to Cadaqués there is Portlligat beach, where you can visit the house of the famous painter Salvador Dalí currently converted into a museum.

30 km from El Port, inland, there is the city of Figueres, that offers many activities of cultural interest, such as the famous Salvador Dali museum and the craft fair and exhibition of antique toys. The weekly market every Thursday is typical and very popular.

Between Figueres and El Port rises the Perelada Castle, which in summer holds music concerts of international fame. It also has a casino for those who like to try their luck.

Sant Pere de Rodes, 9 km away from the property, is accessible by a winding road in the Verdera mountains. This road has wonderful views of El Port. As you get further away the perspective of the village increases, more and more beautiful. Sant Pere de Rodes was founded in the ninth century. Its Romanesque church is considered an essential example of Romanesque architecture in Catalonia and the French Roussillon. Next to the monastery there is the Church of Santa Elena, a female monastery, nowadays an archaeological center. At the top of the mountain, the castle of Sant Salvador, from where there are splendid views of the whole of Empordà in all its majestic beauty.

Between Cadaqués and El Port there is the peninsula of Cap de Creus. Earth and rock in all its glory. A good area for walking among old farmhouses, and a restaurant landscape for gourmets.

Ampurias, early Greek colony in the Empordà, museums and the lovely village of Sant Martí.

Llançà and its port, 6 km from Els Tres Xalets, is also a land of artists. Martinez Lozano and his art museum. Llançà port is also famous for its high gastronomic offer.
